The Harvest of the year 2001

The spectacular growth achieved during the 2001 vintage the d.o. of rias baixas, which ended offially on october 22nd, harvested 16,8 million kilos of grapes. these figures indicates a 100% growth over the 2000 campaign, which produced 8,4 million kilos of grapes. the numbers also surpass those of 1999 harvest (12,4 million kilo), which until 2001 was the rias baixas d.o.īs largest.

in the last few years, rias baixas has increased its production, surface area and the number of its winegrowers. the 161 bodegas of this d.o. have increasingly incorporated the technology and care neede to achieve higher standards of sanitary conditions to protect the vine from desease like mildew and oidio, which are quite common in galicia.

this yearīs favorable climate has also helped the optiumripening of the fruit. the 2001 harvestīs high production level will allow the d.o. rias baixas to strengthen the presence of these wines in the increasingly demanding international market and to seek out new markets.
